Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default 2008 Escape (non-hybrid) oil change interval

I searched the Scheduled Maintenance manual for my 2008 Escape (non-hybrid) to find out how often I should change the oil. Conventional wisdom was every 3,000 miles but I've read several articles over the past several years saying that modern engines do not require such frequent oil changes and stating that intervals of 6,000-10,000 are not uncommon.

The Scheduled Maintenance for my 2008 Escape says the engine oil and filter should be replaced every 7.500 miles but the salesman at the Ford dealer who sold us the car as well as the Sales Manager said we should come in and get the oil changed every 3,000 miles. I just went in to Ford for my first oil change today. The vehicle has 3,241 miles on it. I completely understand that in order to be in compliance with my new car warranty requirements I only need to change the oil and filter every 7,500 miles but would it be better if I continue to change it every 3,000 miles?
