I have a 2002 Ford Escape with the 2.0L 4-cyl, recently (the symptoms started last year) the car has an issue when it gets too hot. It will start but then immediately stall when it attempts to idle.
Example: Its about 85 degrees outside, start the car, it drives fine, we drive for around an hour to an hour and a half on the highway, car is acting perfectly normal, turn car off, eat dinner around an hour. The car is sitting outside in 85 degrees in direct sun light, when we get in the car and start it, it starts perfectly fine and then immediately dies. However if you press on the gas and rev the engine (its a manual) it will run ok until you let off the gas. After opening the hood and letting it sit, as well as running the heater at full blast while the car is running (by forcing it to run above idle) for about 20 + minutes the car starts and runs fine all the way home.
This issue is recurring now, and only happens when it is hot, I found another thread in this forum.

Where another member is having the exact same problem:

However, why would the IAC care whether it's a hot or cold day outside? I suspect that the problem might be further upstream, perhaps in the intake air temperature sensor?
Any thoughts would be appreciated! |
Someone suggested that it was a problem with the IAC being gummed up or sticky, is there an easy way to locate this piece(and clean or replace it), I'm relatively familiar with cars and general maintenance , however I have not done much work on Fords before.
Once again, thanks in advance anyone.
