Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default 08 Escape Engine Question

A couple of weeks ago i bought my first car.I was just wondering is there an automatic rev limiter built in these cars so the engine is not harmed? Or did my parents perhaps put in a limiter ensuring that i do not speed. I was wondering because i was driving and the engine will not rev above four thousand.

Oh yeah its the v6 if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

The factory rev limiter should be higher than 4,000 rpm.

there is an engine rpm limiter to prevent over-revving on acceleration, every engine has one these days.

They will limit revs when you are neutral to about 4000 rpms, and won't let you rev higher than that when you are in PARK OR NEUTRAL. When you are in drive you should be able to rev right up to the limiter, which is somewhere around 6500 rpms or so, can't remember the exact number, but it is much higher than 4k.

Correct. I forgot the rev limit is lowered in Park/Neutral.

Then again, I never rev my engine past 2000-2500 in park or neutral. Why waste gas ?
