Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Moonroof slow to close

I just purchased a used 2003 Escape and found the moonroof very slow to close. It opens with no problem. It appears as though the track is dirty and to make matters worse the previous owner used WD40 and now it slips while closing. Is there a good procedure to clean and what type of lubricant should I use?

Just an update . cleaned out the tracks the best I could. Used Pennzoild Z4 lubricant (dealer recommended) on the tracks and still no better. Door acts as though it is sticking .. then comes to a halt .. I have to help it the rest of the way. As before, door opens normally and the tilt feature opens and closes fine. Can anyone help?
If I have to replace the motor, any idea how much labor cost?
One more thing .. any idea if Ford explorer uses same motor as the Escape? .. found a few on EBay.

appreciate any advice.

I like either Silicone Spray Lubricant or Withe Lithium Grease Spray Lubricant. No Idea what it would cost to replace and I imagine the headliner will need to be dropped.

My suggestion is to leave it closed till you are ready to fix it cause if it breaks/sticks open you will be very pissed.
