Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Equipping my Escape for rough dirt roads
I want to get my 2005 Escape ready for riding on some relatively rough dirt roads up in Vermont. What do you all recommend for shocks, struts, tires, etc.? I've been on a couple of woods roads over the past month with just the standard XLT options and have to say I'm impressed with it so far, but I want to push it a bit more.

Ideas?

Find a skid plate for the engine/transmission. Make certain to get something to cover where the rear drive shaft exits the transmission/transfer case. Another plate for rear diff is a good idea also.

The other things are mostly for bragging.

Any recommendations on a good source? I've looked around the web and haven't had much luck. Custom built?
