Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default hesitation problems

2002 ford escape 3.0 174,000 ,miles. it started to hesitate at around 50-60 mph and i replaced the plugs and it then got worse. i replaced the ignition coils test drove it and my dpfe sensor completeley melted. i then came to a conclusion that my cat was clogged. Took it off and it was. So it was late in the day i had it on the rack and nobody was delivering anymore so i welded a staright pipe on it. Guess what?? Didnt make a difference. so i then replaced all my vaccuum hoses still didnt make a difference. i also chaged my injectors. no difference. I am getting 100 miles to a full tank it is terrible.what i have noticed is that when the tank is almost empty it isnt as bad. the snap on solus that i have keeps telling me cylinder 4 and cylinder 6 is misfiring i ran a compression test and it tested ok i dont know where to go from here any advice would be greatly appreciated

You'd think if it's that bad that a O2 code would show up!

i would take the plugs out that are misfiring and replace them with two old ones possible bad ones out of the package or some idiot dropped them in the store you got them at and just put them back
also do a leakdown test if you can, you may have valvetrain issues that wont show up on the compression test

What make of plugs did you use? My past experience with other Ford engines is that they tend not to like aftermarket spark plugs. I'd try spark plugs from the dealer.

i went with factory motorcraft and i even tried some ngk plugs an it still didnt work. i already replaced the two plugs and still no luck. i have been told that it could possibly be a wire that is being grounded out coming from the pcm to the injectors. other then that it could possibly be my pcm. this is my only vehicle and is only giving me 100 mile to the tank and i dont have an extra $500 to drop on a pcm. any advice would be appreciated

Well like i said a valve train issue can make for some weird problems.
I am not sure if that is the same 3.0 that the taraus has but I chased a miss on mine for weeks and spent money fixing issues that really didn't cause the problem.
Get a leak down tester and eliminate that before replacing any more expensive "possible" issues.
The test is just time consuming and is way worth the not spending 500 dollars.
Not to say it cant be the pcm or whatever but i would try any free things i could
