Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

My bad !

By MAX I meant the maximum fan speed. Slower fan speeds cool better.

I don't think that Ford agrees with that! In A/C Max, you get the highest fan speed. In A/C Auto mode, it starts off in the highest speed again.

I haven't figured out the system yet in my '09 because "sometimes" for certain functions, not sure which, no matter what fan speed was set when you turned if OFF, when started again, it starts in highest fan speed!

We were out running around today, on one of the hottest days of the year
with humidity between 70 & 80 percent. Dewpoint in the low 70s..
Real-feel temp at 100F.

And, I had to turn the left vent off my arm.. I started sneezing!

This AC is WAY better than any I've had for years!

We vacation in Florida in July and I will be taking the Escape on the 3500 mile journey through some tough heat. Hoping the air conditioner keeps up in the hot weather. Last year I did the trip in my Ford Fusion and the air conditioner core froze up on me and plugged the air flow through the interior of the vehicle, and we suffered through some high heat for a bit until it corrected itself. Not sure what caused the Fusion problem, hopefully the Escape air conditioner is a bit more reliable and powerful, as the Escape has more interior space to cool down. The heat down south is much higher than what we see in our northern parts. We haven't had very warm weather in our area yet this summer so I haven't put it through any real test. Any opinions would be helpful. Thanks.
Just purchased my Escape Aug. 1st. Have not driven it on any long trips yet. About an hour long max. It has been over 100 degrees all month long here in south Texas and the a/c has performed very well

What settings do you use typically when it's 80 to 90 outside?
I've been thinking of heading down there in the fall when it's cooler..

Thanks,

Thanks,
unfortunately have not seen daily temps down in the 80's yet, but would imagine a/c settings would be set for minimal cooling.

when you get into the vehicle after it's been sitting in hot sun you have to run it pretty high to extract the heat that has been absorbed on the interior, just like any other vehicle. When the truck has cooled down a decent level and your cruising down the interstate the first setting seems to be plenty cold. I even found myself adjusting the temp dial to keep it from being too cold on long highway driving. Even in extreme heat conditions you don't have to go much about the second fan speed setting, it works really well.

If it literally "froze up", I would be concerned that the condensation drain tube was plugged !

There are pressure sensor built into the system that will shutdown the compressor in the event that system pressure is too high or too low.

The airflow got lower and lower until it was completely plugged with zero airflow through the vents after about 2 hours of highway driving in really hot/humid conditions. I shut off the a/c and just ran outside air through it and the system began to thaw out and ice was blowing out the vents until full airflow was restored. It only happened once on the entire vacation though, so I don't know what caused it, but it happened at the worse time when it was super hot out.
