Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
I have a 04 Escape XLT 4wd V6.
The "check Fuel Cap" light is on and makes the "Check Engine light" come on.
I want to know if there is a way to turn off the lights yourself. the manual says after driving for several gas tanks at highway speeds it will turn itself off.
This is true, when taking a long road trip, the lights went off by themselves after the 3rd tank of gas at constant highway speed for the whole tank.
I do not want to take another road trip to fix this issue and the dealer charges $80 to turn them off.
My girlfriend has a Toyota RAV4 and found out turning the warning lights in that vehicle off is as easy as setting the trip odometer to "trip A" turn car off and then turning on while holding the "odometer button" depressed till it clears it out = light went off.
So I tried it on the escape and the odometer read "test"...the lights stayed on... Anyone know how to turn the 2 lights off without taking a road trip or taking it to the dealer?
