Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Exclamation 2007 Ford Escape XLT ABS Light...

My ABS Light just came on in my 2007 Ford Escape XLT, as well as my 4 wheel drive light (it's flashing). I at first did not know what the problem was. Every time I would try to brake... my front driver's side ABS would engage (pulsing in the pedal and it sounded like a gear grinding or something). I was very close to Oreilly Auto Parts where my father-in-law is a manager. I described it to them and another worker said that someone had the same exact problem the day before. They told me it was broken or cracked tone ring (ABS Ring). We disabled my ABS by pulling fuse 34 (5 amp), but this also disables the odometer reading and most importantly the speedometer. The reason for this post is to try to help others out who may have this problem. From what I've read... it seems to be a common problem with the Escapes. The tone ring should fit snug and shouldn't spin or be loose. I crawled under my vehicle last night to see if it was in fact broken or cracked and found the following: (For those of you who don't know much about vehicles... you are looking for the break in the piece that looks kind of like a gear.)

What a poor design by ford. I have the sister car to the Escape, an 08' Tribute. At 40,000 miles the ring broke on the right front axle. Took it to my shop (not ford) and they said they never seen one break with such low mileage usually about 90k and up. The whole axle had to be replaced the ring is not a press on fit which I was hopping.
