Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
I just bought an 08 Escape today, and noticed something peculiar, compared to my friend's 06 Explorer. On the explorer, pressing the "glass" button actually opens the glass. On my new Escape, the glass refuses to budge when I press the button on the lift gate , but it works just fine when I press the button twice on the remote, so it seems the glass works fine, so maybe the button is broken?
when you press the button do your hear it release the glass latch ?, or does the button sound dead ?. I know sometimes the glass opens on it's own and sometimes I have to open it by hand, but it always releases no matter which way I do it. If you don't hear the popping noise of the latch releasing then perhaps the button is dead and not responding. The actual lifting of the glass is done by the hydraulic pushrods and they can be erratic, but the latch should always release.

Your lift gate glass opens all the way when the lock is popped? My '09 just releases the lock then the cylinders assist manual lifting just like the tail gate. I don't use the lift glass very much at all.
Sorry, should have clarified more. When I pop the glass with the remote, it opens all the way. When I press the button on the hatch to open the glass, there are no noises to indicate anything is happening at all; it remains locked.

when you pop the glass release the pushrods are often strong enough to lift the glass on their own and you don't have to touch it. It doesn't happen all of the time but often enough, I guess with them being fairly new they have enough strength to open the glass, this may change as they age. Quite often I approach the truck and pop the glass with the remote and it is totally open as I arrive at the rear of the truck, helps when you have things in your hands.

Like I said, I haven't used it that much but the little that I have, it hasn't opened all the way.
Sure you have that straight? I just tried mine again. Using the remote 2X button, it just unlocks. If I hit the remote unlock twice to unlock all the doors, hit the button on the lift glass, it opens all the way!! Don't think that I've ever used the lift glass button before.
Thinking again. If you press the unlock button twice to unlock all the doors then press the 2X button twice the lift glass opens all the way!
With a few repeated tries, the lift glass opens all the way with two presses of the 2X button, every time! Go figure..........

I don't know if there is any rhyme or reason to it, I just know that it happens from time to time. Sometimes it doesn't happen and at other times it does. I don't know if the Ford engineers intended for this to happen everytime or if the pushrods are just overly strong in new condition ?
When you unlock the driver's door with the remote, it just unlocks the one door. If you press the unlock button twice, then it unlocks all the doors. All the doors need to be unlocked in order for the tailgate glass to open with the glass release button on the tailgate.
