Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default '09 Escape transmission shifting observation

HI Folks,
I have an 09, XLT, V6, 4WD with just about 3K miles. Was wondering if anyone shares my views on the operation of the trans. I notice if I'm slowing to a stop, but just before a complete stop, lightly accelerate it seems like the trans is not done downshifting to 1st gear, and it sorta hesitates, then drops down, then engages the gear. Almost like a slip.

Something else I noticed, accelerating from a stop, normally, it seems to shift to 2nd gear around 2500 rpm. Right at the shift point, there is some roughness, vibration, something to that effect.

Has anyone experienced these little annoyances ?

There is a TSB #09-14-7 about a down shift hesitation. Does it feel like almost the engine is dead? I get that feeling sometimes and I'm going to take it in to have that TSB installed. It's a PCM upgrade.

Is the vibration felt in the gas pedal? If so that normal, it's the ABS resetting itself.

Now about a "hooting" sound when taking off from a dead stop? Another TSB #09-12-11 concerning 4WD. I'm going to get this one installed. A 4WD module program update that "somewhat" reduces the sound.

Yes exactly, like the engine stalled. Thanks will bring up the TSB.

Na the vibration is definitely drive train, I'm thinking engine.

And yes my daughter brought up the little "hoot" noise.

Glad to see the issues are consistent
