Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Headlight bulb replacement?

Hi,

I'm trying to replace a dead headlight bulb on my 04 Escape, the one right in front of the battery. I tried to pull the connector and it seems to be stuck. I tried to twist the bulb but it doesn't budge. I even tried to take the entire headlight out (there are two screws on top) but it seems to hang somewhere on the bottom part.

Can someone give me an idea what the correct procedure is before I go in and break something? Feeling kind of stupid. :-)

good for you to try to fix this yourself, and save some money! I am not a mechanic, but
did you attempt to twist the socket before removing bulb? do not force, but a lot of dirt
does accumulate in the front area where these bulbs are, my 99 van only has clamps on
both sides for removal, and bulb comes with the socket, does yours? just be patient, take
a flashlight and search all around the area, top and bottom, may be dirt or another clamp
or holder somewhere, good luck!

Esm ,

You can't twist the bulb out.Its held in with two clips. Maybe the socket is seized to the pins of the bulb. There is also a rubber cover that protects the clips and back of the bulb.It just slips off. If you pull back the rubber you might be able to unhook the clips and take the buld out with the socket still plugged in. Once free you may be able to work the socket off.
Little easier if you remove the battery or just take off its clamp and shove it off its plate towards the engine about 5 inches.
