Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
I have an 01 escape with the 3.0 v-6 and recently it has started to occasionally give me trouble on startup. What happens is that I turn the key and the engine either wont start or it fires and stall quickly, If I depress the gas pedal a bit and hold it at about 1100 rpm for about 15 seconds, the car stays running just fine. I have checked the air filter and ran injector cleaner through it. any ideas? i am stumped. Thanks in advance for your help
Cool, thanks WPTSKI,
I know where the IAC is on my 91 mustang, is it in same location on my escape? Also, should I clean it in the same manner as well? Thanks again for your help

Near the throttle body somewhere. Use carb cleaner.

CRC makes some throttle body cleaner spray that will be safe to use even on a plastic throttle body, it is less harsh than carb cleaner (which is not good for plastics)
I finally got around to taking off the IAC and cleaning it. It was surprisingly dirty. I went to the store to buy a less harsh cleaner, but the people in the store assured me the carb cleaner was fine. I was only experiencing a slight hesitation on the first start of the day before, and now that hesitation is gone. Thanks all!
Update: Still working great! Before, the hesitation was every morning as sure as the sun rising, and now it hasn't happened since I cleaned out the IAC. Oddly, I've found that my transmission is smoother too. My only guess is that sometimes when I would be coasting with my foot off the gas, the RPMs would momentarily drop too low to keep the transmission happy and I would feel a 'clunk'.
