2005 ford escape 4cyl. 5spd. FWD.
My mech. is fixing a screwed up installation of the rear main seal by previous owner. They did not use the special tool and 3/4's of the seal lip was bent backwards.
the dripping oil swelled up a large "v" shaped rubber piece that fits between the starter and the block. why is there a hole there? id like to know. It got large enough for the flywheel to tear it up.
Make a "V/U" shape with your thumb and forefinger then put it up the cross-section of a cup and you get the shape of this thing. its about 4 inches on a side and 3 inches thick.
he's called ford and they don’t offer it.... its a 2005 and you cant buy the part !. I guess it does not even show up on the computer for the parts guy.
any ideas?
BTW. at 105,000 mi the 2-part flywheel is shot too. The outer part wobbles and the “hydraulic cushion“ between the halves is shot. AND Its $500 and a week away.
