Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Gas Cap (capless) Fuel Blowback

I have a 2009 Escape with 8k miles, and one of those new, no gas cap gas caps. On Monday, begin to fill the tank, pumps about 2 gallons, pump stops, gas blows out around nozzle. Go to second pump, same occurence. Go to gas station #2, no problems. This Friday, I begin a refil (3rd gas station) same problem, gas all over the side of the car, tire, etc. Finally get the tank filled and away I go.

Ford dealer today tells me that the vapor recovery hose was partially kinked, and it's blockage was what was causing the problem. Sounds like, well, it sounds like a story to me. Note that the car was just in for it's 7500 scheduled service.

So, I guess there's two questions: 1. Is there a design issue with this fuel filler design, and/or 2. Did the dealer screw something up when they changed my oil and whatnot at the 7500 mile service?
