Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default 2009 Escape Transmission

At the first service of my '09 Escape, oil spray from the transmission was noticeable. The dealer suggested we wait and see if it disappeared. It continued until they found a TSB this summer and ran that, a software up-grade. The oil spray seemed to disappear but shifting became erratic. At about 40,000 kilometers they had to change the trans oil because it was black and smelled burned. Erratic sporadic shifting continued. I now have 45,000 and the trans is out - the left output bushing has failed (the babbit is coming off) and also scored the shaft while completely contaminating the transmission with metal filings. Ford will replace it, but the time-line is when? They have no transmission available anywhere and do not know when one will become available. How many others have had this problem or are experiencing these difficulties? The shifting problems are subtle - you must pay attention! Check your oil for discoloration. By the way, I am not off-roading or hot-rodding my Escape - it gets driving where I can get 27+ mpg.
