Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
I have 2001 Ford Escape with the 4 cylinder engine and 5 speed transmission that has recently developed a coolant leak. The leak appear to be coming form the right or drivers side of the motor and I can see coolant on what appears to be the motor or transmission mount. I was having some overheating issues where the gauge would get really high and the fan would kick on when stopped in traffic but then the gauge would go down once I started moving but the fan would not always go off. I checked the overflow tank and it was empty but the low coolant light never came on. The first time this happened it took a half gallon of coolant but the next time it consumed a whole gallon.
I think that this may be a cold water leak as it just started happening with the cooler temperatures or if it is possibly something more severe like a failing water pump. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
