Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default 2002 Escape Remote

Is it necessary to re-program the remote(s) for a 2002 Ford Escape XLT if you replace the coin battery in the remote? How about the keys?

The battery in the remote can be replaced without having to do anything else. As for the keys, I believe I needed 2 good keys to program a third. If you are down to 1 working key the dealer will need to program an additional key for you. If/Once you have 2 working keys, it is simple to program additional keys, the steps should be posted on this site somewhere, if not they are easy to find.

Customer can add 3rd key if they have 2 keys.

Most locksmiths can program a 3rd key with only 1 key and they are usually cheaper than the dealer.
