Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
My VW Passat died and I decided it was time for a change. My x-wife previoulsy had a 2006 escape as her work vehicle and we loved it. So I decided to get a new 2010 Escape for myself. I came to the conclusion that I didn't need (or want) a 6 cylinder as I don't tow anything or really have the need for a V6. I ended up with the XLT with Sun/Sync package, 4WD, 2.5L 4-cylinder in sport blue/stone interior. I did opt for the extended warranty and now have 5 years bumper-to-bumper no questions asked coverage. I am a person that buys a vehicle and drives it for at least 5 years so it was worth it for me.
I have been reading up on a number of posts on this site. What are a few major things to look into immediately? I see checking the ATF level is a must based on the number of posts applying to this. Anything else? So far I have had the vehicle for 1 week and I absolutely love it. The 6-speed tranny is something that I know will pay off on highway use. It is nice to see the tachometer at 2k cruising at 70mph.
As far as gas mileage, I am getting 23.8 as listed in the console (between the speedoometer/tachometer in the dash. I haven't pulled out the manual yet to determine accurate calculations when filling up etc. so I need to do that. My passat got around 24mpg so having an SUV with 4WD and getting the same mileage is fine with me.

Welcome I have had mine for 5 days now have about 1100 miles on it. I Like the Sync but wish it was more compatable with morwe phones. We have Verizon and the list of the better phones with Sync is pretty small.
Fortunately my Verizon phone was compatible with the Sync. I love the vehicle. I ordered floor mats, mud flaps and a rear cover for the back area. Also just got in my receiver hitch that I ordered from hidden hitch. That should conclude all the accessories that I will need for a while.
I managed to check the ATF level today. It was in between the two "dots" on the dipstick - just above the lower "dot". It looks like it is at the exact level the manual states for towing. So I will check it now and again to make sure it is in range.
I played with the mpg reset button. Now when cruising on the highway at about 70 it reads between 26 and 33 mpg depending if going uphill or flat. I think it was averaging the entire drive of the first few days in which I was on backroads and hitting a lot of lights. The next fill-up I will reset it again and go through an entire tank to get a full weighted average of everyday driving.
I still can't believe that I can purchase 87 octane and it is RECOMMENDED by the manufacturer. Blows me away after having to purchase 91 for my VW 1.8T for so many years. I almost feel bad for others paying for the premium gas price. Ok not really. But I do feel weird reaching for the 87 at the pump.
I have had mine for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it. It drives so much better than the SUVs I have driven in the past. I have the V6, live in a "city" and average 20.6 miles. My driver's side door has a small air leak but I will let the dealer look at it when I have my first service.
I had a WRX so I had to buy the Supreme gas as well--so much better to be able to buy the 87 octane. Again, so far it is just an awesome vehicle--Be sure to register your sync online so you can get turn by turn navigation free for 3 years.
Good luck with it! Hope the transmission doesn't fail like so many have in the 2009.
I'm sorry you are having a problem with your vehicle, but to characterize a whole production year of vehicles as having the same problem as you is just wrong.
I personally know several people who own and drive 2009 Escape and have had no issues with their transmissions. Does that male them perfect ? NO ! Does your bad experience make them all failures ? NO !
Remember the "door swings both ways" ! Ford broke off sales supports for some Police Departments that were publicly complaining about their vehicles.

Doesn't matter. My Escape and others have had bad transmissions and that IS ford's issue! They need to stand by their customers. That's "nice" you have had a "good" experience with Ford, but that also doesn't mean we can't complain about it.
If Ford broke off deals with police because they complained, then that just goes to show that FORD is not doing right by ANYONE.
