Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default 2002 Escape #6 Cylinder Miss Questions

Hello Everyone,
I got tired of my 95 Astro Van needing to much work so I went to a dealer near me and found a 2002 Escape with the V-6. Got it for $8400, 1 owner, like new, 58,000 miles. It has me a little worried now.......

I got the Escape on a thursday. We had tons of rain here in chicago the whole time I had it. I drove it about 200 miles in a week and a half and all was perfect. I fell in love with it and was so glad I bought it. I got new Michelin tires for it cause the originals were worn bad and noisy. Bought a new battery just to make sure I would have no problems since I financed it for 4 years. A week and a half after I got it I was coming home from the dealer Monday after dropping some papers off and on the way out of the lot the escape was shaking and hesitating. It smoothed out after about a minute. Tuesday after work it shook again when I pulled away from a light but then cleared up. Later on Tuesday I ran to the bank and it shook the whole time.... Just like you took one of the plug wires off. I went to the dealer on Wednesday after work and they checked it out. He had it for about an hour and a half and he told me "your not gonna believe this. The #6 cylinder had water in it. The guys that detailed it must have got water in the engine. We cleaned it out and dried it and its fine now". Im a Bus Mechanic and I inspect buses so I been out of touch for a little while but I dont believe water could have got in the #6 cylinder only and after 200 miles the problem showed up. I had no CEL on at all. He didnt charge me anything which was good but I have a funny feeling the problem will be back. I asked him if it was anti-freeze and he said "no, water". It dont look like anything was touched on the engine. I have the manuals and read that you have to take the upper intake off to get to anything on the 4-5-6 cylinders. The nuts on the decorative engine cover have not been off. Maybe you dont need to to get to the number 6 COP and plug? Im not sure. I told him Im gonna keep an eye on the coolant level. He said not to worry its not anti-freeze. The exact words they put on the reciept were "CEL is on and does have a miss. Diagnosed and found water in cyl #6. Blow out and clear code". I really hope it dont happen again but I have one of them feelings it will soon....... I didnt drive through water or anything. It just started out of the blue for no reason. It didnt have a CEL light on at all the whole time.
