Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Need help with Escape 3.0 V-6

Can anyone tell me how Ford numbers the cylinders for the Escape 3.0 V6? I've searched it online and have found a couple of different combinations. I've been having a misfire problem and it is pointing to a bad coil but I need to know the cylinder numbering so I can swap the coil to a different cylinder and isolate it for sure. Thanks for any help you can give.

Default My 2002 Escape Coil issues

I do not know how the clylinders are numbered but read my problem below. You might be better off replacing all six,

I had the same issue with my 2002 escape! It has about 80,000 miles on it and never gave me a propblem. I started having a similiar intermitten problem were it would be hard starting in cool mornings. It would crank a little than start. I did not think anything of it because is was not occurring very often.

Than the week before last the engine started running rough while I was standing. Again, it was intermitten. Well, I decided to take it in and the next morning as I was heading for my favorite garage, the engine started running rough and the engine light came on. The engine light started flashing and the engine was so rough I did not think I was going to make it to the service garage.

My mechanic put it on the computer and he said three of my cylinders were missing. He stated that he had seen quite a few 6 cylinder Tributes and Escape's come in with the problem. The problem is the six coils which direct the current to the spark plug. To replace the coils you have to remove the manafo (I probably slaughtered the word) which takes 3 hours to remove and replace. He suggested to replace all six because if three were a problem the other three would need to be replaced soon. Each coil cost $98.13 but to have it stripped down again would cost an additional $267 I figured I save myself $267.

If my mechanic is correct and this problem is occuring on many 6 cylinder Escape's and Tribute's it would seem that a recall should be in the making.

It would be interesting to see how many more Escape and Tribute owners are experiencing this problem.

My father had the same type of problem....his turned out to be serious engine damage at 62K 3 and 1/2 years. No warranty...hes out of pocket 2000 for another engine. I would never buy one of these vehicles personally.
