Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Ford Escape Air Bag Warning Light

I have a 2005 Ford Esacpe and yersterday the air bag warning light started flashing a code of 4 flashes then 6 flashes repeated 4 times then stays on. Does anyone know what the code means for the problem?
Thanks,
Lori

I have that similar problem with my 2006 2.3L XLT model. I think Ford needs to recall all Escape's to fix this problem free of charge. There is even no independent switch for recirculating air-con, and no #1 setting on fan as well. Its a design and manufacturing flows. Its a shame Ford came up with should have been a very nice small SUV, but these little bad things make me go

I have a 2001 that just started doing the same thing... blinking then remaining on. Have you found an answer yet?

Default air bag light

My air bag light came on,and Ford dealer check it.They said that where you fasten your seatbelts, electrical conectors send information to the airbag somehow. If they go bad, they need to be replace. That's what the code told them.

I had this exact same problem on my 2001 ford escape. The mechanic told me there was a short in the seat belt connector after running a diagnostic on the electrical system.

It turns out that the problem was the electrical connection to the seat belt receiver which is under the front seat near the center console. The wires are easy to see if you look under the seat. I must have knocked the connection loose when I pushed a bunch of books under the seat and then pulled them back out.

I reconnected all the connections to be sure they were tight and the problem went away and hasn't been back since.

Default lemon airbag light

I have a 2004 Escape and the airbag light has been on virtually since the first year I started my lease. I have taken it back to the dealer 3 times and each time they come up with a new reason why it comes on and then I drive away and it comes on again in a week or two. They performed the electrical repairs on the seatblets and other Ford suggested repairs and now it won't pass inspection and the dealer is asking me to pay $600 to repair the airbag light, which they haven't been able to repair in the past.

Sounds like BS to me! I don't know if it's the same, but I know a lot of Rangers will flash a code 27, which is a burned out LED for turning off the pass. airbag. You can repair it with $5 in parts at Radio Shack, or pay Ford $150! Hope this helps!

Default Air Bag Troubles

One day my Air bag light came on. It flashed, it stayed on and it would some times go off. I took it to the dealer and he claimed that the air bag unit was bad. Well $600.00 later and after 2 months it came on again. I disconnected the battery, removed and replaced the connector under the passanger seat and reconnected the battery and the light want out for 3 months until my wife went to drive my Escape. She got in the truck and adjusted the seat and steering wheel and the light came on. I disconnected the battery again and the light went off. I think that this is a problem that Ford should look into. The last thing they want is for the air bag not be deployed in an accident.

I have a 2005 Escape and my airbag light will come on a flash a few times and then stay on for a bit. But then the next time I get in it will either be off again or just stay on. I don't even want to bother taking it in becuase I've had problems with Ford before but I'm worried that my air bag might not go off if I ever need it. Obviously this problem is occuring in a lot of Fords. Anyone know what to do?

Default stupid light

I have recently (a month ago today) acquired a 2004 Escape. I traded in a 1999 F-150 4X4 ext. cab for the escape. I had 190,000 miles on the F-150 with few more problems than what I would consider regular maintenance. Now I bought this Escape and am having the same issues with the blinking light. 5 blinks then 7 blinks over and over and then the light will come on and stay on. But some times it does not come on. Some times it will just come on and stay on.

My wife tells me to call the dealer but I am sure they will say the warranty does not cover it. I came to this site for information before I go trying to spend money on something I feel I should not. I am definitely going to check the wire harness first.

My wife likes to drive the vehicle and is not the same in stature as I am. The seat gets moved a lot over the weekends when she takes it and then I take it. This leads me to believe that this may be the issue.

Just another issue I found with the vehicle. I bought this vehicle because the sticker claimed the mileage would be 19 city and 25 highway. WRONG!!!! try 16-19 period. I have a forty mile one-way trip back and forth to work. I should have stuck to the truck at this point. Just a little extra rant.
