Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

I bought a used escape, its a 2003, last year. It currently has 58,000 miles on it and the transmission died. No warning, driving home from work the other day and blam. The transmission place said it will be around 2,500 to get fixed.

Definitly will not buy another escape and may get away from Ford's altogether after this.

Question 2004 Escape 44K miles transmission blows up

We're having the same problem I'm seeing in this thread where my warranty ran out 6 months ago and my transmission died with no warning. Ford Dealer estimated $4,100 to repair; the entire transmission has to be rebuilt, they say. They say they don't know why transmission went. I drive locally and do regularly scheduled maintenance on the car. The car has already been recalled twice for two other separate problems. It was in 3 weeks ago for repair on the last recall. This is our first Ford and I am very disappointed. What resolution has Ford given to any others out there who have had their transmission die just outside the warranty period? Does anyone have any advice as to how to deal with Ford to resolve the problem?

I just bought a 2005 Escape with about $48,000 miles on it. It seems to be doing okay so far, but reading others experiences is starting to scare me! I have only been driving a couple years, but have had similar problems with Fords. My first 2003 Focus started "jumping" when driving up a hill. It was an automatic and I eventually had to downshift for it. The fix only cost $200 because I knew the mechanic. Then I had a 2006 Focus until a week ago... it started to make popping noises when put in reverse. Turns out that problem was a broken motor mount. That fix was free... it was just under warranty. But a couple days after I got it out of the shop, it started making the noises again. That's when I decided to trade it in for an Escape. Even though I am happy with it so far, I probably won't buy another Ford. It just seems that imports are better built and last longer.

Cool Foxy Red

I just had the tranmission go out completely in my 2004 Escape at 56,000. I do not have the extended warranty and am waiting to hear from the dealership. I had a flush done a few thousands miles ago and noticed slipping but didn't relate it to the transmission right away.

Angry 2007 ford escape transmission problems

I just purchased a new 2007 Ford Escape in March of this year and my transmission, air conditioner went out. It is currently in the shop after 23 days. The Catalytic converter also had to be replaced, because it was apparently suspected of potentially being a problem. How do you say Lemon.

I guess I've been lucky so far. My auto tranny slips some times on my 2002, that I've had for 3 years.

I had my tranny go out on me at 22,000 miles. When the 2009's come out I am thinking about trading mine in or selling it outright. The 2009's have a whole new powertrain in them.

Is it possible that it may just be sensor related or is there
something in particular with the trans internals? I dumped the the
fluid with no abnormal contaminants/particles.
