Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
2005 Escape loud knocking sounds from door frame areas
Am I the only one with this problem? I have an annoying loud clicking and or knocking sound mainly near rear door frame areas. At times it sounds like the rear door is not shut all the way but such is not the case. (THE DOORS FIT AND SHUT TIGHT) The initial touch of the brake pedal or if riding over cracks in the pavement causes the knocking sounds. At first it would only do it when the temp was below 30 degrees F. Now it does it when it is in the 50's.
The local dealer had the vehicle for 7 days and put 32 test miles on it trying to find the problem. They taped up the black hard plastic drain hoses coming from the sun roof and it helped for a day or two. Do Ford Escapes have weak chassis that flex very easy???
If the Dealer cannot find the problem then what other options do I have? Please help me if you can.
Thanks - paul
PLEASE let me know what the fix is. I have a little over 16,000 miles on my Escape, and I am having the same exact problem. It's been this way for quite some time now, right around the driver's door.
I wasn't sure if it would be covered in the warrenty, but I'm going to take it over to a dealership to find out what the deal is.
I too have a 2005 Escape XLT. 1 Month after I bought It, it started knocking every time I stopped, turned, and started moving. The dealership has worked on it now for 1 year. They just don't know what it is. I am waiting to hear back from the corporation on their decision. I want my money back.
It seems to knock when the vehicle sits all day in the heat. The first stop sign it knocks and then I might go a few days without hearing it. About 3 months ago, it was doing it every stop and go and the dealership heard it. They have heard it every time I have taken it to them until recently. Go figure. They know where this is leading. They took my stabelizing bar out of the door and the noise went away. Of course the bar has been replaced and the noise come back about a month later but not as bad. Bottom line is that it has not been fixed and I am sick of it.
UPDATE!!!!!10/12/2006 THE DEALERSHIP BOUGHT MY VEHICLE BACK AND I GOT A 2007 ESCAPE XLT AND 3 DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED IT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR BEGAN TO KNOCK WHEN STOPPING AND TAKING OFF...THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO CALL ME. I WILL TAKE THIS UP WITH MY LAWYER AND I KNOW LONGER HAVE THAT FORD. I GOT OUT OF IT AND HAVE A 2007 HONDA ACCORD LX AND THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY. I WILL GO HONDA FOR NOW ON. GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU FORD FANS!!! I HOPE YOUR PROBLEMS WILL GET FIXED.
