Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Battery Lite

Each time that I start my Escape the battery lite remains on for several miles. During this time the system is charging as verified by voltmeter readings. I was going to try and reset the plug on the altenator but I can not see it clear enough to determine how to unplug it from the altenator.

Suggestions?

Default Battery Lite

The coolant level being low did cause the battery(not collant) lite to be on until the car warms up. Thanks for the suggestion.

Default Battery light

I had the battery light go on every time I started the car and stay on for about fifteen-twenty minutes.(2002 Escape) I figured it was the battery and purchased a new one. Same problem. I took it in to Ford dealership, they charged me $112 fo a half hour and couldn't find anything wrong, but I did get a list of everything else that was wrong with the car which amounted to about $1200. Funny, they didn't find that the radiator over flow was low which cost me $11 for anti-freeze and solved the problem of the battery light. My wife suggested that I check out this website and that's where I found the solution. Low fluid in the overflow causes the battery light to go on. Figure that one out. So an $80 battery, $112 fee at the dealership comes to $192 which I could have saved by checking out this web site first and adding fluid to my overflow.

Default Battery Light

My battery light comes on in my 2002 Escape. It only stays on for a minute or so. I brought my car to the service station and they replaced the alternator ($700) and a new battery ($100). Now the light still comes on!!!!! I'm going home tonight and check the coolant fluid in the overflow (or rather, my husband will check it).

Yeah, replace the coolant overflow. The sensor is faulty and this will light up that "Battery Light" looking light on the dash. Replaced my overflow tank and the light went away. I had that light on my dash for a least 2 years before I replaced the tank.

The light ISN'T a battery light, it is a coolant light.
Poor choice of symbols by Ford.
