Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
The "Check Engine Light" on my Escape came on while pulling my utility trailer. I had the code checked, it was P0401. I have changed in this order, the EGR Vacuum, EGR Relay and the EGR Sensor... After the Sensor was changed, the light stayed off for about a week, then while pulling the utility trailer again, the Check Engine Light came back on with the same P0401 code... Anyone else having problems and any solutions...?
I have three put on under warranty. Last one seemed to be good, has lasted about three years now.
Trouble shooting for P0401: A little research on the WEB reveals that, it appears that Ford has had problems with their Differential Pressure Feedback Exhaust Recirculation Valve. (DPFEGR).
One post that I have found:
"Most of what I read linked this trouble code to the EGR valve Pressure Sensor. (DPFEGR - same thing). Right now it is a Dealer Only Part. I went to Ford and learned that they have extended the Warranty on the part only to 70K and 7 years. As it turned out it was more of a hassle to leave the car and have them replace the part then it was for me to spend the $40 and do it myself. It takes about 5 minutes to switch the sensor out and most anyone should be able to do it. I reset the engine light and the trouble has not returned."
I'm having the same problems although with regular driving, not towing a trailer. Got the P0401, changed the sensor and the valve, check engine light is still on.
My check eng. light came on after getting gas ,the book say's fill tank and drive on hwy.aft.three startups it should reset,It did. 3wks.later its on again. How do I reset computer ?
Did you check your plugs and wires? I had the same problem as you and I had to change my plugs and the wires. Haven't had any problems with that since.
