Ford EscapeThe Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.
My brand new 2007 Escape has a cyclical vibration that I feel at speeds over 50. I am getting ready to go pick it up from the dealer for the second time and for the second time they are telling me that it is "normal". So in other words, it is normal for my brand new car to vibrate at high speeds? I don't think so - but I can't seem to get them to understand that. This is my second Escape - the first one rode smooth as silk on the highway.
The vibration "pulses", about once a second roughly. There is no visible shaking in the steering wheel - just a feel. The service manager could feel it - and supposedly he drove two other new Escapes and felt it as well. Ford quality gone down the tubes? I'm just amazed that they would consider this "normal".
My questions are: any ideas on what it could be? what is my next step as far as voicing my disapproval with this situation (regional service manager or something)? Has anyone else felt this type of vibration in a 2007? Any help on this would be GREAT!
Linda
Just thought I'd post an update. After multiple discussions with ASE certified mechanics that I know outside of the Ford family, I have learned that there is an additive that can be added to the torque converters to eliminate this vibration. Since the dealer can't do it without Ford approval, and Ford won't acknowledge the problem, I will need to complain up the ladder until Ford says "yeah, add the $10 tube of stuff and make it go away". I just hope I don't burn up a torque converter before this happens. I put a ton of miles on my car every month. I'm afraid if I put it in, A) the problem won't be there and they won't do anything and B) god knows I don't want to void my warranty. Catch 22.
Are you sure it is the transmission torque convertor??
On the earlier models, there is a shudder from 4th to 3rd downshift at times when the vehicle gets older. It was cured with a transmission flush and new ATF...my model (01MY) used Mercron....do not use Synthetic ATF here...
Check to see if the 07 MY has the same trans first...
IMO, use the additive and see what happens, just don't tell the dealership. (I mean how can they tell??)
I have an '05 and has the same problem.
Dealer said the same thing. Could feel the vibration and cycles in and out every 2 seconds or so between 55 and 70 mph. Service manager said it was normal "harmonic" vibration in all wheel drive models. It is present in the 2006 and 2007 models also. I'm just hoping the thing does not vibrate itself to death in another year. If it does I'm just wondering if the damage from the shimmering will be covered under warranty since it was caused by "normal harmonic vibration."
I've had new tires put on does not change the vibration. Had the tires rotated and re-balanced and then road force balanced and rotated again, the vibration is still there.
ImHolton,
I have a fix to your problem. Ford worked 38 hours on my escape and found the problem. They had to fly in an expert form FORD.
If you are still around - post!
I test drove several used units and often noticed a lot of what I thought was tire vibration being transmitted into the chasis. In 3 cases the front tires were worn on the outside (normal wear) and had been rotated to the back.
IMHO, the factory tire is noisy and may cause this harmonic.
Does this vibration have a squeak or rattle do it at all? On the driver side of my 2007 Escape at around 50 mph I can sometimes hear a squeak. It sounds like maybe it is in the dash on the driver side. I took it in and they fixed the "torque" on some bolt and said they fixed it. But they must have fixed another noise in the car. I have about 2000 miles left on my warranty and I want to try to help them help me...
