Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Default Noise from four wheel drive??

Anyone have a loud noise coming from the transmission, or the four wheel drive. It just started and is getting louder.

I've had my 08 for a few months and it just broke 4,000 miles. I'm not sure if it is the same noise, but whenever I accelerate I hear a faint rattling noise, metallic sounding. When I let off the gas, it goes away. It seems to be getting louder. Same with the engine drone. It just started a few weeks ago and seems to be getting louder. I only hear it when the Escape is going 60 mph+ and I am at that speed for a few seconds. If I have it on cruise control, it never goes away. If I let off the gas, it goes away.

I have an 05 FEH with AWD and 85K miles. I recently noticed a scrape or scrunch sound from the rear when I made tight circles at low speeds (such as going into a parking spot). I thought it was a body panel creak. But it was a differential bearing failure and cost $1,600 to replace the differential.

We've had our used '05 4wd V6 (64K) for two weeks now. We do notice a small tranny/4wd "whine". We've never had a 4wd so I am going give the tranny the benefit of the doubt. Should we worry?

BTW, we absolutely love the Escape thus far.
