Does anyone still recommend a dealer to install this this or is it pretty straight forward?

I have been looking at the same thing. Will installing it myself void the warranty? How about using a professional installer?

go to www.fordaccessories.com and click on tech specs.
You can click on installation instructions (genuine ford accessories)
and click the area you want.
download the pdf that you want and you can see if it would be beyond your limitations of installing yourself.....

Default remote start
The Ford quick install remote start is a simple installation and should run you no more than $450.00 installed with parts. There is still a one year warranty on parts if you choose to install yourself. First timers could do it in approx. 3 hours our install guy can bust them out in a hour and a half.
