Ford Escape The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Question 17'' Wheels on Escape Hybrid?

The 17'' wheels are not a factory option on the 2008 Hybrid. And I notice Ford says it "requires" the V6 engine. I would still like to put the 17'' wheels on the FEH if I buy one. Is there any functional reason I can't do this (wheel well too small, engine not powerful enough, etc.).

I realize it will cost me a bit of gas mileage, but I want to know if there's some engineering reason, or if I should just go for it.

Default Aftermarket tire shop should help

First, if it is done at the factory, I presume that they will either make sure the optional tire/wheel combo's are the same height or they will flash the computer differently so that the speedometer is correct.

The math says that the standard 235x70x16 should measure 29 " tall.

Same for a 255x60x17 - if you should choose to buy your own aftermarket and want to keep the same wheel height and gear ratio.

255x55x18 should be 29.0
275x50x18 should be 28.8

255x45x20 also 29.0

Don't know what the change in width or offset will do to your allignment.

Have fun.
