B9000 is on a distinguished road
Question 2000 zx2 standard 5th gear issue?
The fifth gear does not seem to engage recently- I only have 50K on the vehicle, out of warranty. Gears 1 through 3 run fine, then when I get up to 4th the engine/transmission gets noisy, runs hard, and when I shift into 5th it feels like it MIGHT be engaged, but the car struggles to get to 50-55mph MAX.

Is this a common issue?

Anybody have a guess at what it might be and what might be the cheapest and best way to fix it? I'm going to get it diagnosed at my dealer, but I don't want to have to pay for the installation of a complete clutch assembly or worse-- I don't presently have that kind of money to throw around.
