I recently had something occur with my '92 Escort A/T that I haven't seen nor heard in discussions anywhere. I was driving normally with my car (original buyer in '92), turned a corner and without warning or slippage or pulsing, the trans just stopped to transmit anything to the drive wheels.
I pulled to the side of the road and checked the fluid level which was up to snuff. I then tried to shift through any of the shifter quadrant with no success. It seemed to have just snapped something with no audible or mechanical feedback. The park pawl still holds so it has to apparently be within the transmission, not post trans.
With all of the years of my working with cars this hasn't come up in any previous situation(s) that I have experienced.
Before I take this old dependable car to the trans shop, what should I look for first or be able to explain to the tech?
Thanks
Mike
