Default 01 Escort EGR Code

Daughters -01 is getting engine light, Autozone says ford code is EGR

Buddy said probably need to change DPFE Sensor, Ford wants $130 for the part

Does this make sense and the possibility that the sensor is the part?

Anything else to consider?

Thanks

If the light comes back on get one from a dealership, you get what you pay for and cheaper usually means less quality and when you are dealing with a voltage change you need the sensor to be factory.I cant tell you how many times people get burned with aftermarket sensors.

Whenever you get a Check Engine light and ask for a diagnosis,
we really need to know how many miles you have on your car.
The mileage can make a difference in our troubleshooting.

I would try to check the EGR valve first. See if it holds vacuum.
If the diaphragm in the valve is broken, it will need to be replaced.

Check to see if the EGR is not clogged with carbon deposits.
The carbon deposits will reduce the flow of exhaust gases
through the EGR valve and that can also cause the code.

The DPFE sensor regulates the vacuum to the EGR valve.
If it is not working the EGR will either stay closed or stay open.
If you rev the engine while feeling the egr diaphram,
you can feel for motion of the EGR valve.
If it moves then the DPFE is also working.

Good Luck repairing your problem.
