Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Talking 40 mpg 1.9 escort

Thumbs up better fuel milage
I've just purchased a 1996 escort lx ,1.9 engine I was very surprised and disappointed that it got only 22 -25 mpg. This car has 106000 miles and runs great .no oil use and nice power .

I've never had a four cylinder that didn't get at least 38 mpg ford really had to work hard to get this car to have such low mpg . anywho

First--I put three 100,000 ohm resistors in series to replace my intake air temperature sensor .the computer thinks its 20 degrees outside .this advances timing and would increase fuel except I lowered fuel psi in step two

second --I placed a small vacuum canister with a check valve to the fuel pressure regulator ,so the pressure would decrease ,so less fuel, when the injectors fire

third ---I cut the brown wire from the o2 sensor and ran it through a "interior light dimmer switch"
this way you can control the return voltage and can decrease the voltage . the computer thinks the fuel mixture is too rich.
so you get a lean mixture
there are a few other things you need to know ,if you set this up on your car .You'll need to turn the dimmer switch to high as if your interior lights are full bright ,before you start your engine when you turn the ignition switch to "on" you'll get a reading of "appox ,12.0 volts DC"
A few seconds you'll notice the volts will drop fast to around "1.0 volt" that's normal.
Run your car about 5 minuets if your car is cold .Then rotate the dimmer switch to the lowest possible volt reading without dropping to "0.0 volts " mine stop around "0.4 volts ".
NExt lesson "water injection".

I'm getting almost 40 mpg Don't think this is a joke .I need some help to get to 60 mpg .
