And that can too decrease MPG.

Colder more dense air can help burn fuel more efficiently and that decreases MPG.

My question is that is a 1992 computer calibrated the same as a 1995 computer also the same as the 1992 and 1995 mass air? If it is the 1995 mass air can work, if not it will fail.

I know with Mustangs the mass air was calibrated to the computer, if you added a bigger one that was not calibrated the same running issues would happen. This is why I cant see a newer 1995 mass air working on an older 1992 Escort.

Cold air makes your vehicle suck more air since it is more dense and less humid. If you live in a cold Weather climate like I do (Wisconsin) MPG drops like a Brick in the Winter no matter how you drive. Cold air also increases HP like crazy cause it is more dense and less humid. My 1992 Mustang GT had a 5lb Paxton SC on it all summer long it was fast but not fast enough to beat a Corvette, Fall came around and I could smoke all of the ones I lost to in the Summer, how could I do this..... Fall brings around the cooler denser less humid air.

Hot extreme air expands and cant compress easily and you need more air sucked in your engine to get an efficient burn. Hotter air also holds humidity easier too sine it is easy for water to stay as a gas than a liquid. When you use a cold air intake you suck a more cold denser air and then you get increased MPG in hot climates as long as you keep your foot off the floor, they dont have to tell you everything because if they said it lowers MPG when you drive crazy who would buy it?

does this look like it gets 40 mpg? well it does even with headers msd coil 2.5 in custom intake, mazda rx-7 airflow meter ,ngk uridum plugs etc
the bigest part in milage is controling YOUR FOOT !
wicth i can barly manage but if im far from home i dont ess around to much .

ya thats a escort GT motor im a lx dual overhead cam motors are more efficiant than sohc motors my mpg jumped almost 12 mpg when i put this motor in .

Maybe this is an easier way to explain the K+N...
The bigger intake brings in more air..
when the MAF sensor reads a ton of incoming air, it tells the computer to dump more gas to compensate so you don't end up running too lean, decreasing MPG.

And I would stay with stock plugs, Maybe new OE plugs... but stay with the same type.
Experts in R&D labs spent a LOT of time finding the most efficient plugs for any stock engine... there is a reason they chose the ones it came off the lot with.

cold air decreasing mpg? That is BS. cold air just means you don't have to open the throttle as far to get the same amount of oxygen. There is more oxygen in a cubic foot of cold air than hot air. the problem for you is that more oxygen in a mustang means more power. more power out of a 5.0 is more fun, and you floor it. I bet cold weather makes tires burn up quicker too. ha

Yeah you must not live in a cold climate then.

When it is cold the engine gets a signal (MAF coolant temp sensor) to richen up the fuel mixture to get the car up to operating temp, if it is cold enough this can take a long time. I have driven well over 40 miles and had my temp gauge barely move if it gets cold enough.

I dont beat my Windstar during the Winter/cold months I loose about 60 miles off my tank average. I normally can drive 344 miles on one tank of gas in the hot/warm months, in the Winter/cold months I get around 288 miles to a tank of gas.

You do the math!!!

Anybody else here experience what I do in cold Winter Weather?
