'84 Escort enigma - need answers First, Let me say hello. I'm not new to online forums, but I am new to this one.
I have come accross a very unique early model escort L. I have owned 5 escorts; '83 L, '84 L, 85 Pony, '86 L, and '89 GT. So I am no stranger to the options available in an escort "L" series. However, this one is different. Let me fill you in;
first, it has a three point steering wheel. I've never seen this in an escort before. They've always been two point.
The shift pattern on the knob is not normal either. it has the reverse located left - and up. it is a 5-speed, but not the typical one i'm used to. it seems somewhat beefier.
the exaust is a split plane header. this is most unusual. even my GT had a more familiar design than this one does. I mean, really, headers??
Getting further under the air cleaner assembly I find a Webber carburator with a motorcraft inventory tag.
I figure this car started in california. it has a smog pump and a dealer tag on the front frame of the engine compartment that says; "Modify Emmissions control system - Kit code A - 5/89"
I've never seen anything like this.
Does anyone know what this car may be? I can provide pictures if requested, but I am most curious about where this peticular car aquired headers and a factory Webber carburator. not to mention the other options I've not seen before.
Thanks for any input anyone may have. I thought I was pretty informed about Escorts, but this one stumps me. |
