Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Jack is on a distinguished road
Default Code 218

My 95 Escort is having a problem at highway speeds. When I try to accelerate
sometimes a lower gear will kick in and sometimes not but on both occasions
the car will not go faster. Most of the time it feels like it is misfiring then I have to mash the pedal to the floor to get it to move. If I don't mash the pedal to the floor you can watch the gas gauge drop as it tries to accelerate.
I used an Actron OBD and got the following code that seems to reappear after clearing the codes. The code is 218 Ignition system (distributorless) porblem- Loss or left side Ignition Diagnostic Monitor(IDM) signal. Anyone have any suggestions.

Prior to this I had to replace the cracked head and replace the radiator.
