Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default ZX2 P0172 Problems Help Needed!!!

Hi all i have a 1998 ZX2 giving me a code 172. I have checked for vacuum leaks and found none. Changed the maf, plug wires, ignition coil, and extremely filthy fuel filter. I have also pulled all the spark plugs looking for a fouled plug from a leaky injector, but all looked ok. The car runs well under light throttle but when any heavy throttle is given the engine just lags and there is no power. It has stalled a few times and is hard to start at times. Here is some info from the freeze frame data.

DTC P0172
FUELSYS 1 - CL
LOAD% - 66.2
ETC - 189 F
SHRTFT1: -10.9%
LONGFT1: -24.2%
RPM/MIN: 2030
VSS: 8

Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks!

You have problems with engine power output under high fuel demand situations. You had a "filthy" fuel filter. I'd bet the pump isn't working right or the filter sock on the filter is stopped up.

Oh, and I'm going by the description; I didn't look up the code

For my sanity, please try to use punctuation and capitalization. I try to help the people who post, but it's impossible to do when the post is indecipherable.
