Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Question 93 escort wont turn over???

I have a 93 escort 1.9 litre that quit turning over. I pulled the starter and it tested fine so I reinstalled. I had the battery tested and it was week so I replaced it with a new one. I replaced the starter relay and was able to start the car with a push starter switch (jumping the starter directly from battery) which makes me think something in the ignition switch is bad. But now however the car wont even start with the push switch. I did replace the relay again and it started once, turned it off and try to restart and nothing. Each time you try to start it all power turns off - until you pull the battery cable off - reinstall and try again..? Maybe someone out there has an idea (I hope) but I dont have much experience in this dept. Any suggestions would be appreciated - Thank you.

There are a number of things:
1) The fuel pump is gone
2) The fuel filter is clogged and you need a new one
3) If you took the spark plugs all off then it's not firing right
4) In Fords a typical problem is that the ignition moduel goes, get it checked
And thats if your lucky

my theory is the main feed cable running fromthe battery to the starter might be knackered lol its the red feeder cable use a multimeter set at 20 dc volts and check for power loss through the wire by conecting the positive probe to the red side of the battery on the cable and the black probe to the main feed inlet on the starter motor mate this will narrow the problem down ok if not please get back to me as i am a qualified mechanic
