Ford EscortFord Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.
if you want a 4 cylinder car that is fast, you should have bought a WRX, Lancer Evolution, or even an SRT Neon. Some escorts are nice to look at and fun to tinker around with but, for the time and money involved to make them fast, it is tough to justify. It has been mentioned before on this post that if you want to go fast you should get a Mustang. This is good advice. The Mustang comes with a v8. Most of the v8's have 100 hp or more than the escorts have. They are rear wheel drive. The aftermarket offers a lot more support. You can stay legal by keeping the cat installed. The transmission wont give out on you if you add more power. The list can go on and on. I have 3 zx2's right now (2 s/r's) and when I really want to go fast, as compared to just sounding like I am going fast, I take my mustang out of the garage for a drive.
ps. when you watch car movies (ie. fast and furious, gone in 60 seconds, etc) do they play around with escorts or with real v8 cars.
I like running 14's, trapping at 96 mph, and getting 32 MPG. Maybe that is just me. My car also got higher reliability marks from Consumer Reports then the Mustang (and BMW, and VW) so I think I'll keep it instead of blowing money on a car that will cost much more to insure, more to fuel, and really more to mod. I've got less then $2500 in my turbo and supporting mods. I don't see turbo kits that cheap (with supporting mods) for a Mustang. I certainly don't see many Mustangs make it to 180,000 miles without any engine failure. I don't even use or leak oil.
Oh yeah, I don't need an expensive car to get laid. I guess you do since it is obvious you are compensating for something. I find it funny that Mustang guys make it a point to come into an Escort section to tell us how much better thier cars are. Please check your ego at the door.

theres no point in souping up a escort with a 1.9 origanal motor unless u turbo it like i said i did high compression pistoins decked the block and the head 3.8thunderbird throttle body ,19lb focus injectors ,headers full custom intake , accel coilpack ,here look at this this is my old motor yes it was kinda quick but the fact that some hondas could still beat me was a discrace so i went with the escort gt motor it had 40 hp more bone stock and the dohc motors have way more hp and top end the sohc motors are all about torque.
i spent probably 3000$ dollars on 25 hp upgrades i spent 800 dollars on a motor swap and now im almost at 145 .and i have not even put on my headers yet .
Holy crap. What, no one has ever heard of Cosworth? last I checked, they make insane little four bangers for Rally cars and will even build you one for your street car. Besides, why be like everyone else and build an import? Be original and build what you want. I believe in function over form. i got more respect for the guy that built the car himself in his garage and spent it all on the drivetrain and left the body in primer than the guy who spent more making it look good and spent little on the go-fast goodies. The cars in primer that sound nasty make me nervous no matter what the brand. Just my two drunken cents
I spent $2300 on a Supercharger for my old 1992 Mustang GT and got 101 extra HP out of it and it was on the original Engine. For another $700 I got cat back Borla exhaust and BBK headers and I was smokin C4 Corvettes!
$3000 for an extra 25 hp is "F"in crazy.
Here is a link to my old Mustang, you can also see pictures of it there by clicking on the Picture JPG links.

If your Exhaust tip is bigger than your cylinder bore, you are a Ricer!
Sadly, the more popular a model is, the cheaper the parts, more aftermarket support. You want to be original, you gotta pay more. Hell, until a few years ago, it cost twice as much to mod a 5.0 than a 350 chev. We finally caught up when the aftermarket realized the 5.0 can handle crazy revs if you throw the right parts at it. Nuff said
now u know y i did a engine swap the only true way to get a escort with the stock 1.9 motor to get more than 130 hp is to turbo it , an turbo is my last resort i think if u can build it n/a and have desent power, youre cheating by puting a turbo its just too easy , but so many escort guys have turbos now it crazy im thinking about it but im goona try to rebuild it at the end of the year and get 200 hp well see .
Turbos are more fun and driveability isn't compromised. Whoever told you boost was easy lied to you.
