You save for a good while, then get it totally customized. There aren't many performance mods available for the escort. Best you can do is tune the engine at a shop, add an exhaust and cold air intake. May be able to get a custom turbo setup done...for a price.

well what you want to do is save for a while then spend some money on the performance parts cold air intake turbos things like then then apply a dump valve and a straight through exaust to give it an amayzing sound
then get it resprayed if its damaged and get the windows tinted back to limmo and front to 1 before limmo to give it the look of a killer lol
and apply some body parts such as front splitter back skirt side skirt spoiler and chrome the handles and the wingmirrers my suggestion is to spray it black to get the best show of the tints and the chrome aswell as chroming the window wipers

this gives it a mean look and it will fly this is what my escort mk6 1.6 with turbo and dv is like now that is a car u will have after that trust me mate

I would like to know also how much ur talkin around saving. I just got an escort 99 too and i wanna know what can improve its performance specially in the acceleration and power area.

I have a 1994 Escort LX 1.9 SEFI 2 door hatchback, all ive done is cold air intake and muffler and seen better response for it. Ive only gained probably 10 horses, but its not only what i put under the hood, its how you drive it. With the cold air intake there is not many kits out there. What i had to do was go to Kragens, the have fake crome intake tubes, if you have the 1.9 sefi engine, get a reducer sleeve, 90 degree, 60 degree, the Bmw MAFS adapter to put in the air temp sensor, and a regular 3 inch cone filter. All are from Spectre.

My suggestion is to save the money that you would be spending on modifications, trade in the Escort and buy a Mustang!

Typical for someone to buy a car already stocked with horsepower
Its not about buying an exspensive car and have it stocked with horsepower
Its the fact that you put the time in tunning up a car for you to show off

There is no replacement for displacement.

Fact..... Souped up 4 bangers blow up easy.
Fact..... Souped up 4 bangers cost more to soup-up to get any real HP gains.
Fact..... Souped up 4 banger Escorts are the worst of all 4 bangers to get any HP due to the weak engine design.
Fact..... Souped up 4 bangers are well, Wannabe's.

If I would ever Soup-up any 4 Banger it would be an import due to their reliability.
