Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default 95 Esc. smoking after a flush + a thermostat and spark plug replacement

My 95 has 150K miles on it. It is the 1.9L. Last Saturday I noticed that it took a while for the temperature to rise on the dash board. When it did rise it went right up to the hot mark, and didn't come back down.
My father and I switched out the old thermostat and put a new one in. The old rubber seal inside the old themostat housing was stretched.
We flushed the radiator and engine with the thermostat out. We put everything back together with the new thermostat and filled the radiator. We started the car but it started acting a little slugish.

We then changed the plugs, and noticed that chambers 2, 3, and 4 had burn marks on the ceramic part of the plugs.
After gapping and putting in the new Autolite platinum 5144 plugs we topped off the radiator and started the car. The exhaust started smoking white smoke.
We are thinking that coolant leaked into the engine somewhere. The number 3 spark plug looked a little moist with water when we pulled it out. There was also a lot of smoke coming from cylinders 2 and 3.
Could we have filled the engine with too much water and possibly blown a seal somewhere?
No fluid has yet run off into the resevoir, and there are no leaks under the car.
