Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default New Escort Owner

Proud new owner of 97 Escort LX wagon( Mexico ), 110,000 miles( alledged ).

I presume I have 2.0 engine based on what I've read on the net?

The power steering pump pulley wobbles and pump makes a little noise on right hand turn and will need to fix that most immediately.

I will need to have belt(s) --serpertine?-- inspected e.g timming belt especially.

Perhaps could do carfax check to possibly see if there is record of timming belt change, but probably best to just inspect it?

Thx to any who have time to give me suggestions of where to find out what engine I have, where to get parts for this older car, etc......

My last car is a 93 Ford Festiva, that I have loved for 10 years. Looking forward to ten years with my red Escort wagon.

You have a 2.0L SOHC. The only Escorts between 1997-2003 with any other engine is the ZX-2 which has a 2.0L DOHC Z-Tech.

Thx FD-59. I replace front pads today. Do you have link to intructions fro replaciing timing belt on my Escort LX wagon with air/

I bought the Haynes manual never hurts to consult more than one set of instructions. Never no what little tidbits are left-out of one and found in another.

I plan to also change water pump and tensioner(?) and another dude suggests to replace lower radiator hose, as this is best time it can be accessed.

Odometer says 110,000 but I suspect/suspicion it has been tampered with.

Also heard rumor there is something I can add to rear springs to keep them from breaking, as they are known to do.
