Problem with new clutch

I have a 1994 Ford Escort wagon, and recently had a friend install a new clutch for me. Since I got the car back, it feels like there's no brakes, it's hard to turn, and I can hear every metal clink and clank when I shift. Shifting into reverse is really difficult, too. Before I had him work on the car, I had no problems with my steering or breaks, and although the clutch had obviously gone, there was no metal sounds at all. I checked the fluids because that's what I had been told to do, and everything looks to be filled properly. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see if the Vacuum hose to the power-brake booster is dis-connected. Also, sounds like a tranny-mount is not hooked up right.
