Ford EscortFord Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.
just purchased a 2000 zx2 s/r had service light on when i bought it but was running great. within a couple days it started sputtering, had advance check, and it was misfire cylinder 1. the woman i bought the car from just had the timing belt, plugs, wires, fuel and air filter replaced. i thought maybe the misfire was injector. changed and it and its still misfiring pretty bad. im running out of ideas. i may change coil pack even tho its new. may try fuel pump but i really dont think thats it. any way to check coil? any way to check fuel pressure? anything else i should look for? any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Make sure the plugs are Motorcraft, if they are some fancy double platinum or super electrode that may be an issue.
going to check plugs tonight, i didnt put the plugs and wires in myself so im gonna start checking the simple things before i buy any more parts. if plugs look good im going to replace coil tomorrow. i just want this care fixed! any way to test coil?

plugs look good and there is spark. not sure if this makes a difference but the engine doesnt sputter at all in neutral, only while driving.
This is a great idea.. have two threads running at the same time on the same issue.
Yeah... sarcastic I know.
Yes there is a way to check the coil. Search under my name in the windstar forum.
IF it is missing on cyl number 1 you don't have to check them all! Now I don't know how your engine is mounted but in a windstar the number 1 plug is so difficult to get to that I considered not changing mine. I have seen posts where members discovered that mechanics did not change the entire first bank!

plug 1 is easy to get to, wasnt that, has good spark. thanks though. i ran another thread in zx2 but its updated lol so i have done all the suggestions ive gotten but got no where, getting frustrated. think im gonna pull pump and check screens, going to pull fuel filter to and just check it. just feels like something is clogged. mechanicly everything for fuel and spark seem to be working, so im thinking a clog somewhere and its just not getting the fuel it needs under a load. that make any sense? thanks again

Does this car have a coil over each plug? If so one way to tell if it is the coil if you don't have the equipment to check is by swapping the coil in question with another one and resetting your trouble codes. If it comes up saying u still have a misfire on #1 then its not the coil, but if it moves to the other cylinder then its your coil.
If you dont have seperate coils, then I wasted your time, sorry.

I gave him instructions of how to test a coil with a voltmeter, in one of the previous threads.
