last night my radio died and then the car stalled out. Today it started right up like usual and then after about 8 miles the radio died and then it began to backfire/hiccup and then it died again. This is a 1999 escort wagon. Any ideas?

Sounds like the altenator died and then the battery died. Get the battery charged/tested and remove the altenator to have it tested.
