Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default Blowing Fire

The car is a 1991 Ford Escort with a 1.9L engine. It's fuel injected and used for racing, but for the most part it's all stock.

Well the guy racing it rolled it end over end and since then we've been rebuilding the engine. We are having problems with it starting. There is fuel, spark, compression, and air. The problem is that when we try to start it, flames shoot out of the air intake and it doesn't actually start and run. As long as the engine is being cranked, flames keep shooting out of the air intake. We are thinking that one or more of the valves are getting stuck open at the same time causing this. Any other ideas on what could be the problem and how to fix it?

I don't know anythign about that engine, could it be that you have the valve timing out of time?
