Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Default 99 ZX2 died and will not turn over...on new battery, help!!

Hello.

I've got a 99 ZX2 (auto) and over the past few weeks its been giving us trouble with the shift lock from park not engaging when the brake is pushed. Only after the car sits for a minute running does it engage so we were forced to use the manual override hole next to the shifter. Did some searching and people have said that this could be a simple solenoid fix...cool.

Now, today, my fiance was in the drive thru and she said she took her foot of the brake immediately causing the car to die. I asked her if there was anything funny going on at the time that she noticed. She said that for a few minutes before that, the radio was flickering and going off and on. Right before the car died the radio went dead.

I get there and sure enough, it won't even turn over. The starter will give me that "low battery clicking" every so often but not every time I try to turn it over. If I turn the key to run and have the door open it dings, and the radio lights up and plays....but when I step on the brake, it all goes black and stops dinging.

My theory....the alt is dead. It was on its way out before she made it to the drive thru (hence the radio going on and off) and once in the drive thru the alt died and battery took over, once the juice was gone, the car died. Thats the only thing I can think of since things die when I press on the brake, lighting up the taillights. Its a brand spanking new battery probably not 3 weeks old, so I doubt its that.

Any ideas?
