Ford Escort Ford Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.

Ah you're just in luck, I got an article for that:

Ford ZX2 automatic transmission engine removal - Mechanical Database

Is yours an automatic? There's a second article I have as well which you should refer to if the first one has anything missing:

Ford ZX2 manual transmission swap - Mechanical Database

Is the engine you're grabbing in a junkyard?

No problem. You can, if you remove the entire engine with the transmission. But if all you're doing is just changing the engine then I'd leave it in there it might be easier that way (depending on what tools you have).

I've not done this for my escort - but I did have to swap a Nissan Sentra's engine. Front wheel drive, etc very similar. We tried for hours to get it out without taking the transmission. Couldn't do it. Was just way easier to take the whole thing tranny and all and then bolt the tranny to the new engine afterwards.
