Ford EscortFord Escort ZX2 is a hot-looking compact coupe with a rakish design. Yet its handsome interior reveals a roomy back seat and surprisingly large trunk. ZX2 provides responsive handling and good road manners and its engine delivers decent power. At the same time, the ZX2 is a practical car, with plenty of room in the back seats for friends.
I have a 1995 Escort wagon. 140k. It had a waterpump leak. I had the pump replaced and had the belt replaced at the same time. After the job was done, the mechanic ran it for a few miles and the engine died. The mechanic said that he doubled checked the timing and that it was ok. He removed the timing belt. The valve train moved freely.
With the spark plugs removed, he tried to turn the crank. He said that the crank would get stuck at one point of rotation.
He did not get a chance to check into it yet. He is going to look into it today. Is this an interference motor? The timing belt broke on the highway at around 80k and not cause any damage.
I have been reading on line about broken valve seats falling into the cylinder on these cars. Could that cause this issue?
I am trying to think of anything that could have gone wrong with the waterpump install, or is this unrelated? What could cause the crank to bind at one spot?
